Class Descriptions


​Progressing Ballet Technique + Pilates  (1 hr screen-time instruction)
Kari Gregg uses exercises created by Joseph H. Pilates to guide students in warm-up and strengthening exercises to prepare them for ballet technique training. The exercises use muscle control, breathing techniques, imagery and postural alignment to build up core strength, stability and mobility young dancers need for healthy and strong ballet technique and pointe work. 

Ballet Conditioning (1 hr screen-time instruction with periodic breaks from screen to complete tasks or exercises outside or elsewhere in the house)
Katie Eliason adapts conditioning exercises to build up stamina, work larger muscle groups and strengthen muscles needed for jumping, center work, and grande allegro. 

Ballet Technique (1.5 hrs screen-time instruction with moments away from the screen)
Gina Patterson, Eric Midgley, Katie Eliason, and Carly Hill teach traditional classical ballet technique including barre work and modified center exercises, with time to delve into the elegant details of ballet training including port de bras, epaulement, and performance technique. 

Lunch (1 hr) Students will have the choice to take an hour break or hop on Zoom for social time with friends or get some one-on-one time with an instructor. 

Contemporary / Choreography (2 hrs - screen time varies daily as teachers and students develop language together and then separate to work on various tasks, tools, and movement research)
Gina Patterson and Emma Morrison help students develop a technical foundation and explore tools including imagery, poetry, the senses, art of all kinds, and their own stories to create unique and engaging dance studies. We can find inspiration all around us, any time! Utilizing the unique circumstances and limitations we are currently facing, the teachers will work with students in large and small groups and individually using writing prompts, discussion, videos, creative exploration tasks, and collaboration. Students will spend time in nature or exploring their home spaces with time to connect and time to discover comforting ways of being alone in their creativity. 

African / Afro-Caribbean Dance (1 hr screen time instruction with flexibility to be done outdoors)
Nomi Eniafe leads the students in a high-energy dance class based in a foundation of traditional West African rhythms and dance forms.
